Goodbye Roof!

We finally got a contractor to agree to do our roof (tear off of two layers, complete redecking, and three flat areas that need rubberized roofing)! Now that the rain seems to be moving out, hopefully he will be able to start this week or next. Decking supplies have been delivered.

You can see the poor condition of the current shingles in the picture below. I have two buckets up in the attic catching rain water from leaks. It is going to look like a whole new house! The chimney will be taken down as well.

The fascia board on the front gable is all newly stripped and painted white, including that attic window. The front entry has a new storm door and I stripped and refinished the wood front door earlier this year. I also have the front porch area near the door stripped and painted. There are two other gable areas and attic windows on both sides that are finished as well. Now I have to work on scraping and painting the rest of the eaves and rafter tails. That will probably take me into next year. And finally I hope to order half-round gutters and install those myself.

Your house is adorable. I'm sure it will be moreso once those new shingles are in place.
