Boy, has this weekend gone fast. It all seems like such a blur! Maybe it is because I have a cold and haven't been feeling very well? I'll talk a little bit about Sarah and her home school week this past week, before another week gets started! Aaaahhh!
Our full home school schedule is now up and running. We actually started schooling August 12th, but took it nice and slow. I started Sarah out in her three core classes only: Latin, Math, and Writing {which includes grammar, spelling, and dictation}. We have been slowly adding in her electives: Christian Studies, Literature, History, Physics, and Logic. One of these days I'll become super blogger and post her full schedule in a nice, easy to read format. But, for now, my description will have to suffice! The above mentioned classes are all classes she takes with me. We try and get our core classes done in the morning and then spend the afternoon on one of the electives. Besides studying with me, she also takes Ballet, Piano, Art, and a Simple Machines class.
This week, we had a lot of fun in Physics. Instead of following a set curriculum, I have thrown my own Physics program together (after using many different science programs, I've figured out what works for us and what Sarah likes to do) which consists of making up experiment pages, reading a Science encyclopedia on the topic being studied, and lots and lots of experiments. Science is pretty much child directed, which means that Sarah gets to choose what we do each week, following the basic format I've set up. This week, she chose to put together a Robotkit, a car. We had to wire circuits, hook up batteries and lights, and try to make it all work! Fortunately, we didn't have to trouble shoot as our car worked the first time we turned it on (we even had to put together our own switch!). Putting the car together took up our whole science time, so we didn't get to do any experiments with it, but that is what we'll do in science this week!
Here's our car with the instructions! Say what!? Yeah, that is what I said when I first looked at them too! I'm actually pretty proud that we didn't have to wait for Daddy to help us! We figured them all out on our own!
Can you tell we're proud? Our car zooming across the living room!
Sarah playing around. Can you see the little light we installed? Fun! Fun! Now on to the experiments!
