Indianapolis Children's Museum

Yesterday, in celebration of my birthday, we all hopped in the van and headed up to the children's museum.  Although we have lived in Indiana for a little over two years, we had yet to go visit this museum, which is known to be one of the best in all of the midwest.

We had a fun time exploring all five floors of the museum!  We started in the basement where we were able to go through an Egyptian tomb.  Another highlight was the "Dinosphere,"  which had what Rachel called the "scary sky."  She loved it!  The dinosaurs were her favorite and she even cried when we left because she wanted to go back and see the dinos one last time.

We arrived at the museum at 11:15 and stayed until 4:30.  We went to the hamburger joint Five Guys Burgers and Fries for dinner where we enjoyed a not-too-much grease cheeseburger with made-on-the-spot french fries.  I don't normally opt for less healthy options as cheeseburgers and fries, but I will have to say, the calories were definitely worth it this time!

Here are some picture highlights:

Inside the "Dinosphere."  Behind DJ and Sarah are fossils of a T-Rex found in South Dakota.  These are actual fossils, not a cast!  You can see the "scary sky" behind the T-Rex.  Rachel loved the thunder storm simulation, as well as the roaring dinosaurs!

Rachel dressed up as a dinosaur, laying eggs!  There were all sorts of play areas through out the museum.  Rachel really enjoyed this dinosaur nest!

How fun, we just finished reading "The Golden Goblet" and Z wanted to know if we could climb through a pyramid. Now I know where we can!

Yes! The tomb exhibit is actually quite large and even has a "mystery" you can solve by going through it. The museum is putting together an exhibit of modern Egypt, opening in 2009. Start planning now!
