Did you notice? Yes! I named our home school! It has taken me a long, long, time to really think what I wanted our name to be, and it finally came to me! I will write more about the name and meaning in another post.
We had a good week, but it was shortened a little bit as Thursday was creative day. We took the day out to make Indian moccasins as we are studying the westward expansion of the US right now. We have really enjoyed reading about settlers moving west, and seeing pictures of the traveling wagon trains. In geography, we're studying all about the western states, the Santa Fe trail, and the rivers that helped the settlers transport goods. Our read aloud is Old Yeller.
No, our whole creative day was not taken up by moccasins, as we managed to get some curtains made for the doll house too. THAT took up a lot of time. It is really hard to sew when what you have to sew is "mini!"
Fridays are usually used to catch up on anything that still needs to be done. By the time Friday rolls around we are ready to be done! Sarah actually got her writing project finished on Thursday night and only had two problems to finish up in math for the week. That left Latin and Art. Every Friday Sarah goes to a neighbors house to study art with her home schooled neighbor friends, while Rachel and our neighbor's two littles have play time, art time and reading time. These two little kids are so full of energy, it's almost hard to keep up with them! This week we made a "sun wand" in art class. The kid's ages are 2, 3, and 4. They were all able to glue the strips of paper for the wand on all by themselves! They did a fabulous job with very little help from me!
Sarah also finished her art project that she has been working on for the past four weeks. In class, they have been focusing on still life drawings. I have been so pleased with Sarah's lessons and all that she has been doing. I don't remember learning all the techniques she is learning until I was in 8th grade. Her teacher is so patient and encouraging too. I am so thankful for another home school Mom in my neighborhood where we can swap kids for special classes!
